Siemens to supply turbines for 267MW wind project in Washington, US

Siemens Energy, a German engineering company, has secured a wind turbine supply agreement from Portland General Electric Company for 267MW Tucannon River wind power plant in Columbia County, Washington.

As per the agreement, the company will supply and install 116 units of its SWT-2.3-108 wind turbines with each turbine of 2.3MW capacity and a rotor diameter of 108m.

Both the companies have also agreed to a five-year service and maintenance agreement for the wind project.

Siemens Energy Wind Power Americas business CEO Mark Albenze said that they are excited to support PGE with their continued expansion of clean, renewable energy.

"This order is also an important step in strengthening our position in the U.S. wind market. We will be delivering all of the blades, nacelles and hubs from our facil-ities in Iowa and Kansas," Albenze added.

Tucannon River project, formerly known as Lower Snake River Phase II, is planned adjacent to 343MW Lower Snake River Phase I wind plant.

Siemens is expected to assemble the 116 nacelles and hubs at its nacelle assembly facility in Hutchinson, Kansas with delivery scheduled to commence in 2014.

The 348 blades for the Tucannon River project would be manufactured at the company’s Fort Madison plant in Iowa, the company said.

Following its completion in 2015, the project is estimated to have power generation capacity to cater to energy requirements of nearly 84,000 households.
