Nevada Geothermal completes review of New Truckhaven project in US

Nevada Geothermal Power has completed reviewing all the resource information for the New Truckhaven project located in the Imperial Valley in the US state of California.

Mannvit, Icelandic engineering and consulting company, undertook the review which suggests the site’s geothermal resource is sufficient to continue with the development of an initial net 27MWe binary power plant at New Truckhaven.

The study has concluded that the temperature of the initial reservoir in the inner part of the field, which hosts the production wells, ranges from 370-380°F and has an estimated average temperature of around 355°F.

It also evaluated that the surface area of the reservoir has 6.3 miles2 and an average thickness of 3,000 feet.

The study also has estimated that the recoverable electricity to be P90 (35MW), P50 (60MW) and P10 (95MW) for 20 years, with most likely value to be 53MWe for the same period.

Mannvit report suggested the reservoir is over-pressured with a static well head pressure of 250 psi and the reservoir fluids are benign with low salinity and low non-condensable gases.

The Truckhaven geothermal field resource in accordance with the Canadian Geothermal Reporting Code is classified of an indicated geothermal resource.

Mannvit, in its resource assessment report, included reviews by previous field operators such as Phillips Petroleum Company and Iceland America Energy and it also incorporated the drilling and testing results from the Phillips Trk-1 well and IAE-1 well too.

Nevada Geothermal initiated the permit through Imperial County to drill up to six commercial wells for the development of the resource.

The company is negotiating to form a Bureau of Land Management Unit area for the project.
