Pattern Energy’s 151.8MW wind project becomes operational in US

Pattern Energy Group has announced that its 151.8MW Spring Valley Wind project located near the Ely, in Nevada, has been completed and the plant has started producing electricity.

The project was constructed by Mortenson Construction and used 66 turbines of Siemens each with a generating capacity of 2.3MW. The plant is connected to a 230kV transmission line to distribute the electricity.

The plant is expected to produce enough zero emissions power to light up around 45,000 homes in Nevada. The project also resulted in construction and permanent jobs.

US Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said Nevada’s first wind project has started delivering power into the grid.

"This is a great milestone in the collaborative public-private partnership on clean energy that is creating jobs, generating power, strengthening our economy and making us more competitive globally," Salazar added.

Pattern Energy CEO Mike Garland said, "Building Nevada’s first wind energy facility was a collaborative process that would not have been possible without the strong support and hard work of numerous groups and individuals across the state and around the country."

The company signed a 20 year power purchase agreement with NV Energy to sell the electricity generated from the Spring Valley wind project.
