Construction commences on 110MW, phase three of C-Power offshore wind farm

Renewable energy developer EDF Energies Nouvelles has commenced construction on the third phase of the C-Power offshore wind farm in Belgium.

The third and final phase of the project will have an installed capacity of 110.7MW taking the total capacity of the project to 325.2MW, when fully completed.

Located 30 km off the coast of Zeebrugge on Thorntonbank, the C-Power offshore wind farm is owned by the Belgian C-Power consortium wherein EDF Energies Nouvelles has a 9.1% interest.

The company is expected to install 18 wind turbines supplied by REPower, each with a unit capacity of 6.15 MW in the final phase.

EDF Energies Nouvelles chief executive officer Antoine Cahuzac noted that the commencement of construction on the third phase of construction brings the development of the project to its final stages.

"Taking part in the project has enabled us to acquire expertise and significant experience in the development and construction of offshore wind farms and EDF Energies Nouvelles can draw on this to see its various future projects in France and the United Kingdom through to fruition", commented Cahuzac.

The project has been developed under three phases, the first of which had a 30MW capacity and was commissioned in June 2009.
Second phase of the project, with an 184.5MW capacity was completed in December 2012.

Final phase of the project is expected to be completed by the middle of 2014.
