Westermost Rough offshore wind farm in UK achieves full power output

The 210MW Westermost Rough offshore wind farm located in the UK’s east coast has achieved full power output.

Dong Energy holds 50% stake in the farm, with UK Green Investment Bank holding 25% of the stake and Marubeni owning 25% stake.

According to the company, the 210MW generated by the offshore wind farm is enough to meet the demands of 150,000 UK homes.

Dong Energy said Westermost Rough uses 35 units of 6MW wind turbines made by Siemens, making it the first offshore wind farm to use the technology.

A team of 50 people from DONG Energy’s office in the Fish Dock, Grimsby on Britain’s east coast managed the construction of the wind farm.

Dong Energy Westermost Rough programme director Duncan Clark said: "The offshore construction programme has seen over 900 people employed in dozens of companies, and reaching full power production is a proud moment for all involved and a credit to their skills and hard work."

"The focus for Westermost Rough now is to safely finish final testing and ensure that the entire facility is handed over to the operations team in top condition, so that clean, green energy can continue to be delivered to the UK grid for the expected life of up to 25 years."
