SSE sells three Scottish wind farms to Blue Energy

UK based energy company SSE has sold three of its wind farms, Cour, Blackcraig Hill and Whiteside Hill to Blue Energy.

Whiteside Hill wind farm is located in Dumfries, Scotland and Blackcraig wind farm is located in Galloway, while Cour is located in Argyll and Bute in Scotland.

Once fully operational, the three wind farms will have a combined capacity of up to 98.7 MW while Blackcraig wind farm alone will be capable of producing 52.9MW of power.

In 2011, SSE received permission to build a wind farm in Dumfries and Galloway with capacity of approximately 69MW capacity.

As per the agreement, the construction and operational ownership of the 23 turbine Blackcraig hill wind farm has been transferred to Blue Energy.

SSE Wholesale managing director Martin Pibworth said: "The sale represents the next step, following the recent sale of Langhope Rig wind farm, in a programme of disposals to recycle capital and optimise our wind farm pipeline.

"The proceeds from the disposal of these three projects will help to support our future investments in new renewable energy assets."

Blue Energy will be responsible for setting up and managing the community investment fund required for the project.

Blue Energy CEO Chris Dean said: "This major strategic investment expands our UK wind farm portfolio to over 260 MW and emphasises our confidence in and commitment to the UK renewable energy sector."
